I've needed the ACLU's help for a while now in regard to states and counties stealing the children of working poor people to adopt out to professional step parents for profit.
So far, they haven't even bothered to answer my inquiries. If a small donation (all I can afford) is going to make them a little more receptive to situations of a generally lower profile than they usually like to deal with, what the hell? I'll give it a shot.
I'm sure there are many causes the ACLU would do well to champion. They have been busy. Am I 100% behind all their actions? No.
At the same time, no one group has done more than the ACLU to expose and fight decidedly un-American practices such as torture, extraordinary rendition, warrantless spying on Americans, civil rights abuses, freedom of speech restrictions...
